What you should know about Returned & Services League

To encourage the healthy being and values of the serving and ex serving men and women of the AD, while supporting our members and local communities. Our Aspiration is to grasp the need and how to respond through: Ensuring we comprehend need and how it is evolving. We have a national branch in Canberra, state branches across the country, and almost 300 Sub Branches in Victoria alone. Some of those are big, bustling entertainment complexes and some are small groups of dedicated volunteers. Either way, the mandate is the alike to help current and past members of the AD and their defendants when in need. Of course, assisting veterans and those currently serving remains our primary objective but today, we also assist many in need across Victorian communities. That core mission has never changed but has continued to evolve to face the needs of each generation of servicemen and women. We support for the superior possible conditions for our serving men and women and for those who have served the nation in the past. In addition to this however, we are a community organization and our community urge is expansive and varied including: Emergency services with equipment and funding. The underlying philosophy of the League is friend ship and this is as correct now as it was in 1916. In 1916, there was no formal government welfare service for veterans and the ASL committed itself to yield for the sick, wounded and poor among those that had served including their defendants. Various employment and retraining programs (and for many years operated its own employment bureau). Appointments can be made through our librarian Fred Pratt. Nationally, the ASL sponsors an educational suite of materials for inferior school students that covers both our military history and veteran experience. The Department of Veteran Affairs also has a range of educational material for primary and lesser schools which is also available through their website.
